Client: A Riverside County welding contractor · Coverage: General Liability $1M/$2M + $4M Commercial Excess Liability · Status: Bound
The problem
The contractor wanted $5M in total liability protection, and a large materials-supplier customer was asking for certificates of insurance. The first excess quote available only ran short-term to match the existing GL expiration, and the owner wanted both policies on a full 12-month term.
How Pierce helped
- Worked with the wholesale broker to rewrite the general liability policy so both layers could share one annual term
- Pushed for underwriter approval of an annual $4M excess term with Nautilus over the new Scottsdale GL
- Laid out two payment options (two-pay vs. premium finance) so the owner could choose by cash flow
- Issued the certificate of insurance to the customer's vendor team once bound
The result
Both policies were bound effective 09/02/2026 for one year: $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate GL with a $4M excess layer, for $5M in total protection. A certificate was delivered to the customer.
Why it worked
Rewriting the primary policy instead of accepting a short-term excess kept the program on one clean renewal date and avoided buying excess twice in one year.
